Naming Baby...

Naming our little one may have been my most FAVORITE parts of being pregnant... Well, it maybe one of my most favorite parts of being a "girl" over all. Besides planning my wedding when I was 12, I have been naming my babies! No, they aren't the same as when I was 12... but its soo fun... So when it came down to naming Laila, it was SO fun... story here

Now, yes, I have been thinking of future baby names... NO i do NOT what another baby ANYTIME SOON... but now it is fun to think what fits well with Laila? Our last name... its tricky. etc... Mom's, and Dad's... How did you pick your babies names?

You think YOUR last name is tricky???

I spent a LOT of time picking baby names ... like when I was practically pregnant for 18 years straight. :)

Seriously ... I did spend a lot of time making sure all 3 names (first, middle, last) would sound good together. I'm really musical, and a writer, and I think the flow of the names was really important (like the flow of music and writing).

I am glad that we did NOT go with any "cute little theme". Yea ... our first child's name starts with a "G". What if we'd tried to come up with 12 "G" names. Ugh!

I liked the longer, more formal names, which the children could then choose to shorten, or not. Cassandra always preferred Cassie ... while Jeremiah made sure everyone knew his name was Jeremiah ... don't you dare shorten it to Jerry or Jeremy.

Josh and Ben may choose to go back to Joshua and Benjamin when they are older, if they decide to have a more professional sounding name. It doesn't matter to me. (I can still call them by their "real" names because I'm their mama.)

We just happened to love so many Biblical boy names .. those were just names that we loved (Jeremiah, Joshua, Benjamin, Josiah, Elijah). But, the Biblical girls names just didn't do it for us... until we "happened" to adopt Sarah & Rachel. Actually, our last 2 bio. boys would have been Rachel if either had been a girl. So, it was a COOL "God thing" when the orphanage "just happened" to choose Rachel for the girl that God chose for us. :)

The most tricky name choosing pregnancy was with the twins. We did not know if we were having 2 girls, 2 boys, or 1 of each. So, we had to choose 3 sets of names. And, we purposely did NOT choose "twinny" kinds of names. (I used to know a set of triplets: Jean, Jane, Joan. Nope, didn't want to go there.)

Have fun playing the name game.

We are already laughing about how hard it will be for our younger kids, when they already have 35 nieces and nephews who got all of the "good names".

Maybe we'll have 3 grandsons named: Jimmy #1, Jimmy #2, Jimmy #3. (smile)

Love ya!

Mama D. :)
